Contemporary Constitutional Law provides a theoretical framework to examine politically relevant phenomena, such as the progressive supremacy of the Constitution, the rise and the protagonism of the Judiciary and the proactive role of the Courts in democratic states. We argue that the perspective of International Relations contributes to moving the frontier of knowledge in Contemporary Constitutional Law, since several recent developments in global politics have produced a significant impact not only on law, but on the judicial actors themselves. The aim of this article is to identify how global judicial trends directly affect three main theoretical debates of law: the debate on judicial action, the debate on judicial behavior and the debate about judicial roles and identities. In this sense, it offers specific contributions: a systematization of the relevant literature, the problematization of consolidated theoretical debates and the indication of promising research agenda.
